West Weber Property
The West Weber Property is the site of a new walkable community located along the scenic Weber River, and is the recipient of a 2025 John Russel Pope Award from the Mid-Atlantic chapter of the Institute of Classical Arts & Architecture (ICAA). The design celebrates the intersection of nature, community, and commerce. Drawing inspiration from traditional Utah towns and English hamlets, the urban design thoughtfully integrates residential, commercial, and civic spaces to create a harmonious and sustainable community.
The design’s primary armature is the focus of the more intense land uses such as housing, commercial establishments, and civic uses and spaces. The pedestrian-friendly design fosters a lively atmosphere, with commercial squares serving as hub of local commerce, social gathering, and community events. Throughout the rest of the neighborhood are parks and greens, which offer opportunities for recreation, relaxation, and meaningful connections, all while contributing to the community’s distinctive sense of place.
A key feature of the master plan is the “Emerald Necklace” park system, an idea proposed by local park advocates. It is a series of interconnected parks and greens that seamlessly weave together the river, slough, and the surrounding neighborhoods. This natural loop forms a scenic corridor that enhances community life by linking recreational spaces and providing a beautiful backdrop for everyday activities.
Further enriching the property’s identity is an agrotourism farm, connecting residents and visitors to the property’s agricultural heritage while promoting sustainable farming practices. This unique feature not only preserves the area’s rural roots but also enriches the community’s cultural and environmental ethos.
The West Weber Property strikes a thoughtful balance between dynamic urban living and the tranquility of the natural landscape, creating a vibrant, connected and sustainable place to live, work, and thrive.
