Hammond’s Ferry

Hammond’s Ferry combines a beautifully-crafted traditional neighborhood with a vibrant town center adjacent to downtown North Augusta along the Savannah River.  A total of 800 residences, including single-family homes, live/work units, townhouses, condominiums, and much-needed rental apartments along with 40,000 SF of commercial space were originally planned.

The neighborhood was originally master-planned by Dover-Kohl.  Changes in the market following the 2008 economic downturn led the developer to hire Watkins to redesign the neighborhood center still within the principles of New Urbanism, but with soils, topography and other expensive site costs also in mind.  The objective was to minimize up front development costs while maximizing the return on that investment while maintaining the quality of urbanism and architecture that Hammond’s Ferry has established.
